Sylvain's Anonymous FTP at CfA
Connecting to CfA's anonymous FTP will fail if you let your browser send the
default password.
To avoid this and connect to my anonymous FTP, try following these links:
Note that you might need to click on the refresh icon under IE (thanks Bill
G.!).
If this fails,
use these links for
outgoing
or
incoming,
and follow these instructions.
If the browser you use is:
- IE (Microsoft's Internet Explorer)
Click on the refresh icon and a "Login As" window will pop-up:
- Select Login anonymously,
- In the Password: box, type in you email address,
- Then click Login.
- Firefox
FTP authentification was a
known bug.
This bug is fixed in Firefox 1.5.
If you still can access CfA's anon-ftp site, you can try the following:
- find your firefox preference file:
ls ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/prefs.js
- add the following two lines:
user_pref("advanced.mailftp", true);
user_pref("network.ftp.anonymous_password", "XXX@YYY");
where XXX@YYY is your email address.
- Netscape7/Mozilla
If you are prompted for a password, type in your email address.
Otherwise:
- Select Edit->Preferences, and then Advanced,
- Check "Send this email address as anonymnous FTP password:"
and type in your email address in the box.
